On May 24, 2018, during a military operation in the Al-Amri refugee camp near Ramallah, combat fighter Ronen Lubarsky was critically wounded. Two days later, on May 26, 2018 (12th of Sivan), he died of his wounds.
‏Ronen served in Duvdevan combat unit and was 20 years old when he died.
‏Throughout the Shivah, as well as after, many stories were shared about Ronen, drawn from all facets of his life. In addition, the journals Ronen avidly wrote from the age of 15 until his last day in the IDF were found. His writings and the stories about him leave a moving legacy of his hopes and dreams.  Ronen’s family decided not to keep this treasure to themselves, but rather to share his light with the world via his writings and legacy in order to inspire and empower children, teenagers and adults alike.
‏In cooperation with the "Pirchey HaDarom" (Flowers of the South) foundation, which operates the Gedera football club and the "Asa Oti Lohem"- a combat fitness organization where Ronen practiced - they launched the "Le’Oro" program.  “Le’Oro”, “In His Light”, is a year-long value and educational program based on Ronen's four core outstanding traits - determination, professionalism, friendship and humility.  The “Le’Oro” race is the culmination of the program.  The race will be launched on the afternoon of Thursday May 16, 2019, which will be a full moon night, and will end in the morning of Friday, May 17, 2019, the Hebrew anniversary of Ronen’s death.  The race is a relay race, which will begin at “Giv'at Ronen” in Rehovot - the city where he lived- at the hills where Ronen used to train before he enlisted in the IDF. The race will continue through the Judean plains and the Jerusalem hills, ending near his grave on Mount Herzl.  From there the race will continue through the city of Jerusalem to its conclusion at the Western Wall.
‏The purpose of the “Le’Oro” race is to connect children and youths to the Land and the People of Israel that Ronen gave his life for, and impart them with tools and values that guided all those who fought over the years in the areas through which the race travels.
